This pure silk carpet was made in the holy city of Ghom, in central Iran. The city is considered one of the religious centres of the country and is famous for its magnificent silk rugs. Their typical features are lush, very colourful floral patterns, which – thanks to the finely spun silk yarn – are depicted in great detail. Genuine Iranian Ghom carpets are also very tactile and "fleshy", which makes them particularly hard-wearing and easy to distinguish from cheaper copies. Today, Ghom feature among the most valuable Iranian carpets.
